...over at Legion of Decency, Jimmy (in the spirit of House/Fitz/Rockford) offers up his take on the schmoozing and party scene in the entertainment business. I'd almost take it as a personal dig (regarding my earlier repost about the importance of networking/schmoozing) if I wasn't less of a socializer than he is, and know that he knows that. But I have been rather lax on the volunteering front. Good of you to put it in perspective Jim...
It's still important to like and get along with people you work with, but it shouldn't be the only reason you're working together. Problem is a lot of those who are doing the hiring might have very different criteria than yourself for who they want to work with and why. Makes for the kind of anecdotes he relates. So try to remember...
It's not just about who you know, it's also about the work, you know.

What chu talkin' bout Will-is? I never take no digs at you!!!
And you're very right about one thing -- it's the criteria that people use to do their hiring that really interests me. In the same way action reveals character, their hires paint a fascinating picture of who they really are and what their agenda (planned or accidental) might be.
Thanks for cheerleading the blog as well, Will. You are without doubt, one of the reasons I keep doing it. I've been doing a lot of thinking over the holidays and have decided to start living up to that mission statement I laid out in October.
Have a great New Year. 2007 will be eventful. The fuse is lit.
