I'm pretty sure I've posted this before, but was in a meeting yesterday where two young industry pups just stared at me blankly when I referenced the classic 1955 Looney Tunes short 'One Froggy Evening'.

Yeah...you know, the one written by Michael Maltese and directed by Chuck Jones for Warner Brothers Merrie Melodies and often regarded as one of the best short films ever made?
Sheesh.
In fact, there was a sequel made to this classic cartoon in 1995 that I wasn't even aware of HERE --- and like most sequels to films that don't need a sequel, it sucks!
And now Denis McGrath takes this post and runs with it over at HIS PLACE...funny stuff.
Nevertheless, because it makes me smile, watch the original.

Because Warner Brothers made some really bad choices in how to market its cartoon library (like in the '90s when they gave all the cartoons to Cartoon Network, which soon dropped them), there's a whole generation of humans who didn't grow up watching these cartoons on TV.
Of course, kids can now get the cartoons on YouTube, or they could if Warner Brothers didn't keep pulling the cartoons off the website that actually introduces them to new generations.
Yeah I hear you Jaime. I mean, I remember loving this cartoon as a kid...when I saw it on the Bugs Bunny Road Runner show on Saturday afternoon - nobody had to tell me it was classic and to go watch, it just was classic. And then remembered later in life and wanted to show my kids. Bought those Warner Bros Looney Tunes discs.
I feel a great sadness for anyone who doesn't know this short.

To be fair, there was a big downside to watching these cartoons on Saturday mornings -- censorship. I remember when I first saw this cartoon on "The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show," it was complete (except for the opening and closing titles), but later they cut the "free beer!" gag because the network cracked down on any alcohol references in cartoons.
Again I hear you...my kids got so sick of me constantly cussing and pointing out what had been edited out of those cartoons when they aired todays...stupid network censors, we could kill a day reviewing the tragedy of all those cuts.
Aw. One Froggy Evening. Now I'm happy.

My younger brother (16) and I (20) loooove that short. The other night, I was actually discussing the frog (in the context of The WB, though) with a friend.
Where did they think the "watch the frog thing came from"?
This is why I should be a young industry pup -- I know what's up.
Dude, 85% of the kids graduating just about any animation school don't even know who Tex Avery is. And even half of that remaining 15% only know him as the "eyeballs popping out head guy". It's absolutely true because I've seen it firsthand.
