Really jammed up this week on about five different things, so I'll be brief.
First, LOVING DMc's rant and the ensuing comments about Canadian TV show websites...eat 'em up HERE and HERE... you just gotta love the big guy for not being afraid to tell it like it is. Seriously.
Next....the Henshaw provides us with a preview of upcoming posts and some tasty tidbits of what he's been learning and hearing at NATPE this week, including this doozy of a quote: "Within three years, the television commercial will be a memory."
And speaking of commercials, why is this new ad from PETA:
...being banned from airing during this weekend's Super Bowl by NBC because it "depicts a level of sexuality exceeding our standards," ... yet the following Burger King ad from a couple years ago featuring a meat-eating Paris Hilton was apparently okay.
Someone wanna explain that to me?

I find both commercials disturbing! Not sexually, but artistically. I slightly prefer the veggie one. Maybe it was banned because the veggies are more phallic than a burger? Uh, you know what it is? It's the licking. The ladies are licking the veggies, but Paris is not licking the car or the hamburger.
I just can't imagine having the kind of life where my job is to go to warehouse, dress in a small bathing suit and eat a hamburger while suggestively washing a car. Reminds me of...
I had this one friend awhile back who had his heart broken by the runner up in the Miss Nevada pageant. You know what she did for a living? She sat on a dolphin at the Rio hotel in Vegas and waved to guests. Can you imagine?
Yay Christina! Analyzes...has some thoughts...tells an anecdote...the complete comment.
I don't really get the PETA spot...other than it being sleazily provocative, like, you know... a Poison or Warrant video.
Relevant!
^ While I don't buy his argument entirely Noel Biderman makes an interesting point about alcohol consumption in comparison in infidelity.
I guess it's all about what sexuality we're comfortable with in society and what's taboo.
As to the PETA commercial being banned, it's probably because they use the word 'sex' and not just innuendo. I'd wager It's similar to how censors don't want people to see Homer actually smoking a joint, but they're fine with the implication that he does (hint in the episode where he uses marijuana you never see it touch his lips, just the effects after the fact).
From Bill Martell's blog:
And NBC has rejected a commercial from PETA for the Super Bowl. PETA asked NBC what it would take for the commercial to air. NBC suggested the following cuts be made:
:12- :13- licking pumpkin
:13- :14- touching her breast with her hand while eating broccoli
:19- pumpkin from behind between legs
:21- rubbing pelvic region with pumpkin
:22- screwing herself with broccoli (fuzzy)
:23- asparagus on her lap appearing as if it is ready to be inserted into vagina
:26- licking eggplant
:26- rubbing asparagus on breast
So... it was the licking, and more!
oooo Wager lost! Good thing I don't gamble
